A big sale is underway at a downtown Cedar Rapids hotel that’s about to undergo a $25 million renovation. The City of Cedar Rapids recently took over the former Crowne Plaza Hotel which had been suffering from age and the 2008 flood. Don Hayes, President of National Content Liquidation, says nearly every item from all 15 floors and 276 rooms must go.

A complete queen sized mattress with the box-spring and frame is priced at $165. Other items being sold include coffee tables, lamps, mirrors, pictures, dishes, carpet and even door knobs. “This place was just redone two years ago, so everything is pretty much in like new condition,” Hayes said.

The liquidation sale will last for 30 days or until everything is gone. “There are things from a dollar to a couple thousand dollars…I expect it to be very busy,” Hayes said. He notes items like dishes, banquet trays and bar tables may be especially appealing to those in the hospitality business.

Some items, like mirrors, are brand new and still packaged. The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
