Fort Dodge man dies in construction zone accident

July 12, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A man died after a one-vehicle accident in a construction zone in the city of Fort Dodge. Police says the 71-year-old Fort Dodge man was killed Monday afternoon as the result of an accident involving the pickup he was driving and an excavator.

The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as Gene K. Peterson. The accident happened in a construction zone at the intersection of Fifth Avenue South and South 30th Street in Fort Dodge. The eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck left the designated roadway in the zone and struck the rear end of the parked excavator.

Peterson was rushed to a Fort Dodge hospital where he died of his injuries.
