Forecasters say the hottest weather of the summer so far is about to bake the Hawkeye State. Meteorologist Frank Boksa , at the National Weather Service, says Iowans should prepare for a very steamy weekend.

A high-pressure front is building from the southwest that will turn up the heat on Iowa  Friday, with the hottest air arriving on Sunday. Boksa says the long-range forecast indicates that heat wave will last through much of next week. He says high temperatures will be creeping into the lower 90s tomorrow and they’ll get hotter into the weekend.

Highs Sunday should be in the mid- to upper-90s with dewpoints in the mid- to upper-70s, which he says will mean the heat and humidity will combine for “non-healthy conditions.” Boksa says it’s likely Heat Advisories will be issued very soon as heat indices will certainly be in the triple-digits before long.
