Authorities have released the names of the two people who were killed Thursday in a head-on collision on U.S Highway 18 in northwest Iowa’s Palo Alto County. The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened around 8:50 a.m., one mile east of Cylinder.

The Patrol says 57-year-old Bruce Plucker of Curlew was driving a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero eastbound on Highway 18 and a 2005 Ford Pick-up driven by 77-year-old Franklin Honold of Hampton was westbound.

The Plucker vehicle swerved into the westbound lane in front of Honold’s pick-up and the two vehicles collided head-on. Plucker and a passenger in the Honold vehicle, 71-year-old Janice Honold of Hampton, were taken by ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Franklin Honold and another passenger, 58-year-old Wayne Vanveldhuisen of Lake Mills, were injured and taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital.
