A former business manager with the Lake Mills school district is jailed on five felony charges. The Winnebago County Attorney’s Office says 44-year-old Christine Mathahs was charged with money laundering and first-degree theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, felonious misconduct in office and falsifying public documents, all felony offenses.

She’s also been charged with tampering with records, which is an aggravated misdemeanor. The arrest of Mathahs follows a report from State Auditor David Vaudt released on June 30th that showed she allegedly took over $262,719 from the school district over a five-year period.

County Attorney Adam Sauer says Mathahs faces up to 37 years in prison and $48,750 in fines. She’s being held in the Winnebago County Jail on $5,000 cash bond.
