Search on for hit and run van in Black Hawk County

August 2, 2011 By Matt Kelley

Authorities are looking for a van that ran a stop sign causing a fatal motorcycle crash in northeast Iowa. The crash was reported just before 11:00 a.m. Monday at an intersection 2.5 miles north of Dunkerton.

Black Hawk County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene and found a motorcycle and two people in the ditch. The driver, 44-year-old Francis Heim, said he entered the ditch to avoid hitting a white minivan that failed to stop at a stop sign.

Heim and his wife, 37-year-old Tammy Heim, were taken to a local hospital. She was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City where she died.
