An Iowa woman is among three suspects arrested in Arizona after allegedly trying to get a fake bomb onto a plane. The three African refugees allegedly had the bogus bomb in one of their carry-on bags at the Phoenix airport. They were trying to board a jet bound for Des Moines.

The fake bomb is described as being a paste-like substance inside a container with a cell phone taped to the outside. Police say it’s possible the trio was testing airport security, though terrorism hasn’t been ruled out, especially with the 10th anniversary of the Nine Eleven attacks in a few weeks.

All three are jailed in Phoenix facing felony charges of conspiracy and having a hoax device. Fifty-one-year-old Luwiza Damon is an Ethiopian, who lives in Des Moines. The two men live in Phoenix, natives of the east African nation of Eritrea.
