Grinnell basketball coach to take sabatical, son to step in

August 15, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

There will be a midseason change of coaches for the Grinnell College men’s basketball team. David N. Arseneault will take over for his father Dave Arseneault and become the interim coach during the second semester. The younger Arseneault has served as an assistant coach for the program the past two years.

David says this is the second book his dad is writing and says he won’t officially take over until the second semester. David will take over for his father, who is going on sabbatical leave granted by the school to work on a new book.

The younger Arseneault says his day has given him permission to make most of the decisions even though he isn’t officially taking over right away so the players get comfortable with the process and there is flow to the season. He says it’s great for him to get some coaching experience.

The younger Arseneault say as there will be no change in a style of play that has seen the Pioneers lead the nation in scoring nearly every season during the past two decades. He says he loved the style when he played for his dad and looks forward to coaching it and says if they can have half the success of his dad, then they will be doing pretty well.
