Mississippi River bridge at Lansing closed after inspection

August 18, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation have closed a key bridge between the states. Emergency maintenance is being conducted on the Highway 9 bridge over the Mississippi River in Lansing because during a routine inspection, a crack was found under the structure.

The bridge will be closed until further notice. More than 2,000 vehicles travel across the bridge each day. The bridge was closed twice last year after it was hit twice by barges traveling on the river.
