Iowa cornerback Shaun Prater is taking more of a leadership role for the Iowa defense this season. Prater registered four interceptions a year ago in garnering All-Big Ten honors but is one of just five starters returning on defense.

Prater says as a senior he tries to do everything he possible can to be a leader. After entering 2010 with lofty expectations the Hawkeyes are “under the radar” this year.

Prater says he doesn’t focus on that as a team can be ranked number one going in and end the season without a ring, so he says he just tries to focus on winning every game and being the best he can possibly be.

Prater says it will take ever segment playing well to have another good defensive unit. He says even with a strong line, linebackers and secondary, everyone still has to do their job to win games.

The Hawkeyes open September third at home against Tennessee Tech.
