A fish kill in eastern Iowa is under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The D.N.R. received a report of dead fish and cloudy water Monday afternoon on Goose Creek upstream of where it flows into Duck Creek, in northeast Davenport.

A D.N.R. environmental specialist looked things over and took some water samples that night. He saw dead and dying fish in Goose Creek for about three-fourths of a mile above Duck Creek. Based on field tests, he ruled out manure or sewage as the source of the fish kill. Water samples showed some acidity.

So the D.N.R. is looking for a chemical pollutant and its source.
