Man found dead in burning Waterloo home

September 8, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

One person died in a house fire this morning in Waterloo. The victim is identified as 66-year-old Isaiah Labeaux Junior He was pulled from his burning home at 118 Shilliam Avenue in Waterloo shortly after 4 a.m. when a passerby noticed smoke coming from the second floor.

Labeaux was found unconscious in a first floor bedroom and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not determined what caused the fire, but say it likely started in the living room and had been burning for quite a while before it was discovered.

Firefighters said they did not hear smoke alarms sounding as they arrived on the scene.
