Victor Medina

Davenport police shot and killed a man Thursday evening who allegedly made a bomb threat. Davenport officers responded to a disturbance call at a downtown apartment building.

A caller had reported that a man in the building said he had a bomb and was threatening to blow up the neighborhood.

Police say the area was evacuated, and negotiators attempted to talk to the man, identified as 48-year-old Victor Medina of Davenport. Police say he had a satchel and an object that had wires attached to it.

Cops say they ordered Medina numerous times to put the objects down but he did not. He then moved toward an officer while still holding the items and was shot. He died later at the Davenport hospital.

As is policy in Davenport Police-involved shootings, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating.
