Authorities closed several streets in downtown Cedar Rapids for four hours this morning after finding “suspicious packages” that turned out to be a homeless man’s suitcases.

The Cedar Rapids/Marion Metro Bomb Squad was summoned after two suitcases were found near the entrance of a newly-constructed building in Cedar Rapids. A robot was dispatched to x-ray the contents.

Cedar Rapids police determined the suitcases belonged to a 59-year-old “transient man” and according to a statement from the Cedar Rapids Police Department he was “reunited with his property and allowed to go on his way.”
