Iowans are holding ceremonies around the state to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Hundreds gathered outdoors at 7:30 Sunday morning, around a replica of the Statue of Liberty on the state capitol grounds, for the State of Iowa’s Remembrance Ceremony.

Governor Branstad laid a wreath that was made of 2977 millimeters of blue ribbon to represent the victims of the September 11th attacks. The wreath had 13,000 inches of red ribbon to represent the number of Iowa National Guard soldiers and airmen who’ve been deployed since 9/11 and 84 white flowers to represent the number of Iowans in the military who’ve died on active duty since 9/11.
