Magazine ranks several Iowa colleges, universities on “best” lists

September 13, 2011 By O. Kay Henderson

U.S. News and World Report magazine has released its rankings of the nation’s colleges and universities.  Several Iowa institutions made the list.

Grinnell College was ranked 19th on the magazine’s list of Best Liberal Arts Colleges. Luther College in Decorah was #86. Cornell College was #94 and Coe College was #102.  Both Cornell and Coe are in Cedar Rapids.

The magazine’s list of Best National Universities had the University of Iowa ranked #71 and Iowa State University ranked #97.

The magazine also ranked the Best Regional Universites and Creighton University in Omaha was number one on that list. Drake University in Des Moines was number three.  The University of Northern Iowa made that list, too, at number 16.  St. Ambrose in Davenport was ranked 40th Best Regional University.
