Newton man dies in house fire

September 14, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A 36-year-old Newton man died in a fire at his home last night. Newton fire marshal, Mike Knoll, says Jason Darland died in the fire while three others got out after being warned by smoke detectors.

He says Darland’s wife Heather and two children got out of the home. Knoll says Darland’s body was found in a bedroom. Knoll says the fire appears to have started in the bedroom, and they are still investigating the cause.

The fire was reported just before 10:30 last night.
