Iowa faces unique defense this week

September 23, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Hawkeyes close out non-conference play at home against Louisiana-Monroe. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the Warhawks have a a unique style on both sides of the ball. He says it’s like last week, if you don’t cover it, they will have big plays. Ferentz says they haven’t played a defensive scheme like this for several years, so they will have to work on it.

Ferentz says Louisiana-Monroe’ defense plays with three down linemen, three linebackers and five defensive backs. He says it’s different than what they see normally. Ferentz says they would like to play well heading into their off week. He says winning the game is the biggest thing, and improving is the next.

Ferentz says September is an important month to determine where they are going and he says “we have got to keep the foot on the gas” in terms of their development.
