Mother and son plead guilty to theft from City of Adair

October 4, 2011 By O. Kay Henderson

A mother and her son have pled guilty to stealing from the City of Adair. Sixty-three-year-old Linda Nichols used to be the city clerk in Adair. Her son, 41-year-old Terry Nichols, worked in the city’s street department.

The two have pleaded guilty to first-degree theft and they’ve agreed to repay more than $83,000 to the City of Adair. A state audit released in May identified more than $110,000 of “improper payments” that were attributed to the mother and son.

They’ll be sentenced in November and each faces up to 10 years in prison.
