Hawkeyes travel to Penn State to open Big 10

October 7, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa Hawkeyes open the Big Ten race at Penn State. The Hawks enter the league race with a record of 3-1. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says they’ve only played one road game at Iowa State and didn’t handle that very well, so it will be a challenge.

Penn State’s offense has struggled in a 4-1 start but Ferentz says the defense is solid led by a veteran line and secondary.

He says they have size and depth in their defensive front and are only giving up 12 points a game. Penn State has not decided on a starting quarterback and have been using Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin. Ferentz says both have done some good things, so there’s not a lot of difference between them.
