Two accused of beating witness to car crash

Waterloo Police have arrested two people accused of beating a witness to a traffic crash. The crash happened early Thursday morning.

A 60-year-old man called police after he saw the vehicle crash into a city bench. He said when the driver and passenger found out he’d called police, they beat him with his own cane. The man now has a broken nose and broken arm, which required surgery.

Police arrested 25-year-old Zachary Ackerman and 27-year-old Matthew Stacey Thursday evening on charges of willful injury.
