Hoiberg not downplaying expectations for team

October 12, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The talent level has been boosted and so have the expectations at Iowa State where Fred Hoiberg gets ready for his second season as head coach. Four transfers will see action this season: Royce White from Minnesota, Chris Allen from Michigan State, Chris Babb from Penn State and Anthony Booker from Southern Illinois.

In Hoiberg’s first season as coach the Cyclones were 16-16 overall and just 3-13 in the Big 12. Hoiberg says he is excited about the expectations as they had zero expectations last year with all the changes. He says they want high expectations and to be in a position to compete for Big 12 championships.

Hoiberg says it takes more than talent to successful, and he talks to his team often about having chemistry. Hoiberg says he hopes they can live up to expectations, but acknowledges there are still questions about the team and he still has questions about the team.

Hoiberg says this is also a much more experienced team and hopes that will show at crunch time and hopefully the can win some of the close games they lost last year.

The Cyclones will play Grand Valley State in an exhibition game on November sixth.
