Cops say man tried to rob two banks in 15 minutes

October 14, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Council Bluffs police are looking for a man they say tried to rob two banks in just 15 minutes.

Council Bluffs Police Sergeant Patrick Norris says at about 10:30 this morning, a man walked into one bank, displayed a gun and demanded money.

“When he did leave this location, he had some currency with him and a dye pack did explode,” Norris says, “so there’s a chance that the suspect may have dye on his hands.”

Norris says the man dropped the bag on the bank property.

“He exited the west doors of the bank and then he ran around the building, throught he drive-thru section and in the drive-thru is when the sack that he was carrying exploded and he dropped the sack and the money,” Norris says. “…We can’t verify…If he took some of it. We don’t know.”

Police believe the same man — about 14 minutes later — tried to rob a second bank that was 12 blocks away, but he did not get any money there. According to police, the suspect is a white man who wore sunglasses and an Iowa Hawkeyes hat.
