Two charged in vandalism of western Iowa mink farm

October 14, 2011 By Dar Danielson

Two people are in custody facing several charges for allegedly vandalizing a mink farm in western Iowa. Sioux City police arrested 24-year-old Victor Van Orden and 21-year-old Kellie Marshall, both of Austin, Texas, after the mink farm owner reported suspicious activity at his farm around 1:45 A.M. on Monday.

Van Orden and Marshall are charged with second-degree criminal mischief, carrying a weapon, possession of burglar tools and second-degree attempted burglary. Police say some property damage was done to the farm and some animals were set free. The two are each being held in the Woodbury County Jail on $5,000 bond. Vandalism was reported earlier this month at a mink farm in north-central Iowa near Jewell.

Some 1,200 to 1,500 mink were released from the farm. Officials in Sioux City are not commenting on whether the two incidents might be related.
