Fatal Floyd County fire called accidental

October 18, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities are releasing more information about a fatal house fire in northern Iowa. Firefighters from Colwell responded to the blaze at 10:49 P.M. Sunday. When the firefighters entered the residence, they found 72-year-old James Olmsted, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a report from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, an autopsy shows that Olmsted died of smoke inhalation. An investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s office determined the fire was accidental in nature, and was caused by smoking material.
