ISU coach sticking with quarterback change

October 24, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Iowa State coach Paul Rhoads will not wait until the end of the week to decide, he is making a change at quarterback as the Cyclones prepare to visit Texas Tech. He says Jared Barnett will be the starting quarterback Saturday and they are looking forward to the opportunity.

Barnett was inserted into Saturday’s game against Texas [email protected] after Steele Jantz struggled in a 33-17 loss. Barnett finished the game 16 of 36 for 180 yards. Rhoads says it was an east decision to make, as they’e lost four games in a row and have not been productive on offense. He says a good part of the offensive troubles have been at quarterback and Jantz has not been as productive as Barnett was coming off the bench.

Rhoads says with a week to prepare as the starter Barnett should make even more strides against Tech. He says Barnett got more reps last week, and will get even more this week with all the first team snaps, and some of the mistakes he made last week should get fixed in the process.

Texas Tech is coming off a 41-38 upset win over Oklahoma and Rhoads says it is another example of why the Big-12 is so tough. He says the Tech upset proves that again and he says they played incredibly well.

Rhoads says a win like that will give the Red Raiders a huge boost of confidence, as he says anytime you get a signature win, especially over the number one team, there’s an added boost for the team.
