A Belle Plaine man was taken to jail on his 44th birthday after police say he stabbed his girlfriend and cut another man’s throat. Belle Plaine Police arrested Stacy L. Rigler just before 11 o’clock last  night at the apartment he shares with his girlfriend.

Officers had responded to the report of a stabbing and found a man was bleeding heavily from the neck and a woman with a cut on her shoulder. Investigators say Rigler attacked 25-year-old Lawrence Schafer and 38-year-old Tammy Munson with a pocket knife. Both victims were treated and released from a hospital.

This morning, Schafer told KCRG-TV the incident followed an argument. “Next thing I know, I felt something hit me. I didn’t know what it was,” Schafer said. He received about 120 stitches to close the cut on his neck.

Police have not released many details of the incident, but say alcohol was involved.
