A Marshalltown man has been sentenced to prison in connection with the prescription drug overdose death of a college student in Iowa City. Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Haskell pleaded guilty in July to conspiring to distribute oxycodone resulting in death.

A federal judge has now sentenced Haskell to eight years in prison. Prosecutors said Haskell gave oxycodone to 23-year-old Mitch McCrink who died of an overdose in March of 2010. It happened in Iowa City where McCrink was attending Kirkwood Community College.

He was a 2006 graduate of Marshalltown High School. Scott Seward of Le Grand was also arrested in the case. Police said Seward had legal access to oxycodon to treat a medical condition, but distributed the drug to Haskell. Seward also plead guilty to drug conspiracy resulting in death.

His sentencing date is scheduled for December 12.
