Drake looks to take a share of PFL title

November 11, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Drake Bulldogs will clinch at least a share of the Pioneer Football League title with a victory over Dayton this weekend in the regular season finale at home. Drake rallied for a 31-24 victory over league leader Jacksonville last weekend and have a 6-1 record in conference play.

Coach Chris Creighton says Jacksonville is a false summitt as they are far from finished in climbing to the top of the conference and it will take everything they have this week. After a mid-season loss at San Diego the Bulldogs have won three straight games to give themselves a title shot.

Creighton says the desire to be the best and be champions is very strong. The final hurdle will be a tough one. Dayton is 4-3 and while the Flyers are not in championship contention they have four in a row against Drake and seven straight in Des Moines.

He says they are a very proud program that is always talented and well coached and they always play hard. Creighton expects a physical and tough football game. Drake is 8-2 overall and with a victory would earn its fifth PFL championship and first since 2004.
