Homeowners in some parts of Iowa hit by high winds and tornadoes are eligible for at total of $4.4- million dollars in federal assistance. Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) spokesperson, Tina Hoffman, explains. She says the funding is available for uninsured and underinsured low-to-moderate income homeowners in Benton, Cherokee, Ida, Monona, Tama, and Taylor counties.
Hoffman says the funding has been distributed to each individual county. Hoffman says homeowners should contact county officials or the regional council of governments in their area to sign up.
Monona County will get the largest share of the funding at $3-million. The county was hit by an F-3 tornado on April 9th that leveled approximately 100 homes in Mapleton. Benton County will receive $500,000, Tama County will receive $303,900, and Cherokee, Ida, and Taylor Counties will receive $200,000 each to assist homeowners who experienced damage to their homes caused by high winds.
Hoffman says homeowners will also have access to funds from the Iowa Rebate Program to help replace damaged appliances.
