McCaffery says depth will allow them to do more

November 11, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Fran McCaffery begins his second year as the Iowa basketball coach when the Hawkeyes open the season at home, tonight, against Chicago State. The Hawks look to improve upon last year’s 11-20 record and McCaffery says this year’s team has much more depth and it will allow the Hawks to use more full court presses.

McCaffery says they didn’t have enough bodies to do that last year, but now they do. McCafferry says good depth is a must if they want to extend their defense. He says they have to respect the opposition and sprint and cover them and sometimes get them to play faster to get them to turn it over. He says it takes a great amount of effort.

McCaffery says this will be a much better perimeter shooting team with a lot of different weapons as all the guards and the forwards can shoot, and he says that’s exciting.
