Man found dead after fire at Ottumwa motel

December 8, 2011 By Dar Danielson

One person died in a fire at an Ottumwa motel Wednesday. A news release from the city says Ottumwa firefighters were called to the Royal Rest Motel and found a small smoldering fire in one of the rooms.

Firefighters also found a man believed to be in his late 40’s dead in the room. The man’s name is not being released until his family can be notified. The Ottumwa Fire Department says foul play is not suspected and the cause of the fire is believe to be an improperly discarded cigarette.
