Semi driver in Minden crash dies

December 16, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Authorities in western Iowa say one person is dead after a semi crashed into a home this morning in Minden. The driver of the semi died at a hospital in Council Bluffs, about an hour after the crash, according to the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s office.

The accident happened just after 7:15 a.m. When deputies arrived, they found a 2003 Peterbilt semi tractor trailer had left County Road L-66 from Lincoln Street in Minden, and crashed into the front of an unoccupied residence.

Attempts to revive the unresponsive driver of the rig were initiated at the scene and continued until rescue personnel arrived and took him to the hospital, where he died. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death, but officials say it appears the man likely suffered from a medical condition prior to the crash.

The house sustained about $10,000 damage, while the semi – registered to Charles M. Leaders Trucking in Minden – sustained an estimated $30,000 damage.
