Iowa wraps up nonconference schedule with Boise State

December 21, 2011 By Todd Kimm

The Iowa basketball team will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Thursday night by hosting Boise State. The Hawkeyes are 7-5 after a 105-64 win over Central Arkansas on Monday night and take on a Boise State team that is 9-3. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says this will be a tough test heading into the start of the Big Ten race.

“We have to get after them defensively, we have to get after the three-point shooters, we can’t give them 14 threes, we can’t give them 10 threes,” McCaffery says. He says Boise will be the same as the next 18 games they see, “quality players with a winning attitude.”

McCaffety told his team immediately after the Central Arkansas game that they better play well against the Broncos. “I don’t know if our guys fully knew and understood that we were playing a team that was gonna be 9-3, that has really good players, that is playing well together,” he says.

That will be the second half of a doubleheader in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. In the opener the Iowa women play Mississippi Valley State.
