Ottumwa man dies in accident

A single vehicle accident Friday morning has claimed the life of an Ottumwa man. According to the Iowa State Patrol a 1997 Ford F150 driven by 44-year-old James Niemeyer of Ottumwa was traveling on Cemetery Road South of Agency when he left the roadway, entered a ditch striking a farm drive before coming to rest in a field.

Niemeyer was transported to the Ottumwa Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The accident remains under investigation. The Wapello County Sheriff’s Department and the Ottumwa Police Department assisted at the scene.
