Autopsy confirms Dundee shooting was accidental

January 9, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation now says the shooting of a woman in Dundee was an accident. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department was called to the Dundee home just after 5 p.m. on January fifth.

They found 41-year-old Amy Hettinger had been shot. Hettinger later died as a result of the shooting. The D.C.I. determined that Hettinger had been shot by a 10-year-old inside the house who had been handling a loaded handgun. The gun belonged to another family member.

The D.C.I. also says an autopsy on Hettinger’s body confirmed the shooting was accidental. The D.C.I. has not released other details on the shooting, and says the case will be sent to the Delaware County Attorney for a review of possible charges.

Hettinger’s funeral is this morning at 10:30 in Masonville.
