A central Iowa woman is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her newborn twins. The Huxley Police Department and the Division of Criminal Investigation arrested 22-year-old Jackie Burkle Tuesday afternoon in  the death of her the twin girls.

The criminal complaint filed in Story County says Burkle admitted to law enforcement that she acted to terminate the lives of both newborn infants.

The D.C.I. said earlier the Huxley Police Department had been called on January7th to check on the welfare of Burkle. The report said police responded to the duplex where Burkle lives and learned that she had given birth to twin girls.

The girls did not survive and police recovered the bodies of the girls from the trunk of Burkle’s car that was parked in the driveway. Burkle was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

The D.C.I. says an autopsy was completed on the twin girls Monday, and the lab results could take four to six weeks. There was no other information released on the case.
