The Drake Bulldogs have won three straight games for the first time this season. The Bulldogs connected on 56% from the field and rolled past Illinois State 77-60 in the Knapp Center. Drake coach Mark Phelps on his post game show on KRNT in Des Moines says their success started with defense and rebounding.

“That’s the cornerstone of any success that we have, we have to defend at a high level, we have to rebound. We haven’t always defended well we haven’t always rebounded, but we’re starting to now,” Phelps says. He says if they can focus on defense, the offense will take care of itself.

Ben Simons led Drake with 21 points while Kraidon Woods had his first double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Drake is now 4-3 in the Valley and 11-7 overall. They visit Southern Illinois on Wednesday night.
