Dordt holds the lead in a tight GPAC race

February 3, 2012 By Todd Kimm

Three Iowa teams are in the race as the Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball race heads down the home stretch. At 13-3, Dordt College has the lead while 11-4 Briar Cliff and 10-5 Northwestern are right behind.

Dordt coach Ross Douma sasy they had a tough loss and the team seemed to refocus after that and they like the direction they are going and seem to have developed some momentum on the defensive end of the floor. Douma says they are happy to control their own destiny with four games remaining.

“I just believe that we have enough leadership…and we’re getting enough post play, that our guys understand what opportunity lies in front of us there,” Douma says. Douma says plenty of hurdles remain. The Defenders play three of their final four games on the road.

He says they have not fared well the last couple of times they have traveled to Nebraska and they need to prove that they can pick up a win in a hostile environment.

Dordt is 22-3 overall.
