Corrections officials releasing few details on eastern Iowa investigation

February 14, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Department of Corrections officials aren’t saying much about an investigation of an incident involving prison workers in eastern Iowa.

Fred Scaletta, spokesman for the state’s prison system, has confirmed that an internal investigation is under way at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center (IMCC) in Coralville.

Details of the investigation, however, are not being disclosed, including what the employees are accused of doing. IMCC Deputy Warden Greg Ort has said the incident occurred about a week ago, but did not happen in the center.

Scaletta said investigators are trying to determine if the prison employees broke any laws or violated department policies. It’s unclear when, or if, more information about the incident will be released.
