Simmons not expected back for Wednesday’s Drake game

February 14, 2012 By Todd Kimm

Drake basketball coach Mark Phelps expects the Bulldogs to be without junior forward Ben Simons for a fourth straight game when they visit Bradley on Wednesday night. Simons has missed the last three games after being diagnosed with mono.

Drake coach Mark Phelps says Simons has gone through some light workouts and they hope he can get back this season, but he says he doesn’t see him playing Wednesday. The Bulldogs won their first game without Simons in the lineup on Sunday night when they posted a lopsided win over Evansville.

Phelps says they were single minded and focused on defense and everything else took care of itself. He says they have to continue playing defense first in Simmons’ absence.

Drake is 7-8 in the Missouri Valley and 14-12 overall. Bradley is 2-13 in the Valley and 7-20 overall.
