Authorities are looking into a break-in at a house in a north-central Iowa town where a dog was shot and killed. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department says the break-in happened after 3 o’clock Saturday morning.

Sheriff Larry Rictsmeier says the man who rents the home, Andy Farrer, told deputies that someone broke into the house while he was out and killed his three-month-old puppy.

The sheriff says deputies found someone had broken a window, found the man’s gun inside the home and shot the puppy with it. Richtsmeier says nothing was taken from the home. No arrests have been reported.
