Two of the five Class 1A boy’s basketball teams still unbeaten will square off tonight in a district final in Burlington. Top-ranked Danville and sixth-ranked Keota are both 23-0 so far and will meet for a second straight year in post-season play.

Last year, Danville beat Keota 60-40 in the sub-state final round to move on to state. Danville coach Ken Laffoon says the key this season will be to stop senior forward Casey Sieren. Laffoon says you have to keep him off the boards as he is “an offensive rebounding machine.”

Sieren averages 19 points and nearly 11 rebounds a game. He had 16 points and 12 boards in a 48-40 victory over Sigourney in the last round, but was one of only six players to see action for the Eagles. Laffoon says they only dress 9 players and they want to force them to play as many players as they can.

Danville is led by Steven and Michael Soukup, who combine to average 36 points a game and went for 44 points in their win last year against Keota. The winner of tonight’s game will move on to a sub-state final either against Pleasantville or Wayne, Corydon.
