Last second layup sends Waukee past Mason City in 4A

February 29, 2012 By Todd Kimm

Amy Nestingen’s driving layup beat the buzzer as Waukee stunned third ranked Mason City 49-47 in a class 4A quarterfinal at the Girls state basketball tournament in Des Moines. The winning basket came after Mason City standout Jada Buckley was called for traveling on a drive to the basket with 11 seconds remaining.

Buckley led Mason city with 21 points. Brittany Boland had 18 to lead Waukee. The Warriors take a 20-5 record into Friday afternoon’s 4A semifinals.

Mason City ends the season with a record of 21-3.
