A Cedar Rapids hospital is launching a “blog” featuring five area women, all of whom are either expecting a baby or who are already moms.

Danielle Rauser, a spokeswoman for St. Luke’s Hospital, says The Real Moms of Eastern Iowa is a web-log that pregnant women and new mothers across Iowa should bookmark on their computers.

Rauser says, “It’s a local online community for moms or moms-to-be to go to and share their ideas, their frustrations, their laughs, their inspirations about being a mom.” She says the blog follows the day-to-day experiences of five Cedar Rapids-area women and covers anything and everything relating to motherhood.

“It’s a go-to,” Rauser says. “If you’re pregnant, if you’re wondering what that funny feeling is, maybe you can go here and see that another mom had that weird feeling, or your toddler is acting up in a funny way, you can go to it. It’s an online resource but it’s local moms which makes it all relevant.”

She says the blog’s readers can also share their stories, exchange information and provide support to each other. The name of the online interactive column is recognizable by those who watch reality TV shows.

Rauser says, “It’s loosely based off of the ‘Real Housewives’ but we wanted to come up with something that was catchy and memorable but yet say exactly what it is and it’s exactly that, the Real Moms of Eastern Iowa.” The blog includes links to the Hospital’s Facebook and Twitter profiles, as well as links to the hospital website, where readers can get expert medical advice and information.
