The death of an Ottumwa man is now being treated as a homicide.

Last Tuesday, Ottumwa police and fire personnel responded to the Cinema X Theater in downtown for a person needing medical assistance.

Upon their arrival, emergency personnel found 70-year-old Kenneth Laverne McDaniel of Ottumwa dead inside the front door of the business.

Monday, the Ottumwa Police Department announced they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Police Chief Jim Clark says, “We are continuing the investigation, but believe the death to be the result of a homicide. Once we receive the autopsy results with an official cause of death, I anticipate charges will be filed.”

Chief Clark says: “I want to reassure the public there is no killer on the loose as we believe the suspect is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on other charges.”
