The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has released the names of the officers and suspects in a shooting in Boone Saturday. The D.C.I. identifies the man who was shot at 48-year-old Brian Lee Johnson.

The agency says Boone police officers, 32-year-old Sergeant John Wiebold and 29-year-old Korie Barber went to Johnson’s Boone resident just before 11 p.m. Saturday to investigate an incident. The officers talked with Johnson before he took off running and officer Barber attempted to stop him with a taser.

The taser did not work and the officers said Johnson then turned and pointed a handgun at them. Both officers fired multiple shots and hit Johnson. Johnson was taken to the Boone County Hospital and then airlifted to a Des Moines hospital where the D.C.I. says he remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

Wiebold has been on the Boone force for 10 years and Barber for five. Both have been put on administrative leave according to department policy while the D.C.I. investigates the shooting.
