Missing man found in vehicle in Des Moines River

March 29, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Police say the body of a missing man was found Wednesday in the Des Moines River. Des Moines Police were checking on a report of something suspicious in the river on the city’s southeast side.

It turned out to be submerged vehicle belonging to Stephon Harry, a Union Pacific Railroad worker who was reported missing last fall. His body was found inside the vehicle. The 48-year-old Harry was last seen at 2 a.m. on September 8 leaving Manning’s Bar.

His disappearance was considered unusual as investigators said Harry had not been having any problems and did not have a history of going missing. The body was taken to the Polk County Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
