One dead after fire in rural Eddyville

April 9, 2012 By Matt Kelley

Authorities say they may never know what sparked a house fire in south-central Iowa’s Monroe County over the weekend. A body was found in the debris.

Firefighters were sent to the home in rural Eddyville around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The house was engulfed in flames. Two people had been in the home and one of them escaped with minor injuries.

The other person did not make it out. The body has been sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy. The two people’s names have not been released.

Ron Humphrey, with the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s office, says the cause of the fire may never be determined due to the complete destruction of the home.
