An autopsy is planned for today on a woman who killed in an apparent hit and run in Waterloo. The victim is identified as 59-year-old Becky Lawless.

A police officer discovered her body on a sidewalk near the intersection of Washington Street and West Mullan Avenue in downtown Waterloo at 4 a.m. Monday. The officer had stopped after first noticing several items in the roadway.

Bill Koch lives a short distance away and was awakened by police at 5 a.m. “There was a knock on the door and I answered it and it was a police officer,” Koch said. “He asked me if I had heard anything or seen anything. I said I had not.”

Police have not made any arrests related to the case. Family members say Lawless had lived at the home of her father since last winter.
